What is a shift in Consciousness Really

Sri Yanchiji

"Now, a question: Can it really be Spiritual Life (the Inherent Life-Identity we were each born with) that we are ‘practising’, that we are involved in or associated with, if we remain habitually insisting, often aggressively, upon the repetition of our worldly-inherited identity and its desires and goals?"

There is a common saying that what is needed is ‘a shift in Consciousness’- well, what is that? It is not good enough just to repeat these common sayings without having the courage to find out what they mean in our own case. We repeat these sayings, these dictums, these vain-glorious aphorisms, as if we were talking about how someone else’s attitude or beliefs need to change – especially those whose beliefs do not sit comfortably with our own – our own worldly-identity mind. What is generally considered as a ‘shift in Consciousness’ is merely a better, more spiritual way of thinking within the worldly-identity – the ego-self. Although those ‘changes’ can be endless, they remain within the same worldly-identity-mind-self, with only a few deck chairs having been moved around. For the Enduring Strength of Indivisible Love to Pervade us and thus Peace to be Realized by all – no matter what our customs are, no matter what our language, colour or place of birth happens to be – more than a mere ‘shift in Consciousness’ is required.

The Universal Inherent Spirit-Identity and Its Morality must become the foundation of human society, of human community. This foundation does not annihilate diversity, uniqueness or Creative Life expression; on the contrary, it is the worldly-created identity that, by suppressing the individual into the contraction, into the cramp of self-consciousness, keeps the individual out of Un-qualified Life-Consciousness, the Very Source of the Life-Creative Will. This foundation further eliminates the need for the power, control and self-defence that each worldly identity feels as unquestionably necessary for its survival, and out of which there can be no Life-Creative outcome. The worldly-made-up-identity, the one in which we say, “this is who I am”, is fundamentally binding a great deal of energy and attention to itself in the activities of comparing, competing, defending, proving it’s the best, and fighting for its survival. There can be no Life-Creative outcome out of comparison, arguing for approval, competing one-against-the-other, or in all the worldly-identity (ego-centric) arguing for its self-appointed rights to the freely-given resources of the Earth, of Life. Rather, what is required is a Moral Transformation at the level of Consciousness: a Greater Conscious Awareness of Life, of who and of what we are, beyond the personal level of the worldly identity that we so tenaciously cling to.

Now, a question: Can it really be Spiritual Life (the Inherent Life-Identity we were each born with) that we are ‘practising’, that we are involved in or associated with, if we remain habitually insisting, often aggressively, upon the repetition of our worldly-inherited identity and its desires and goals?

Is this possible? Is the Practice of exercising the Self-Responsible disciplines (the disciplines required to adhere to the Present Living Spirit Identity, to Commune with and Relate to others in the Way of this Truth) when each and every religion and culture requires, well, demands of its adherents, a personal theological embroilment with a god, with a belief, that must be engaged with according to each culture’s and each religion’s terms? I mean, really, is this Self-Response-Ability?

I suggest that the Truth of our Life, the Original in-the-Garden-of-Nature Identity, is being constantly obscured by the seemingly plausible accretions of human-made worldly-identity narcissism. Our bodies, our minds, our experience and our world, are all being contaminated with our own idea of our worldly-identity ‘I’. The human species is suffering its own self-delusion and therefore its self-destructive decline, on the basis of its collective, chronic narcissism. Everything – their gods and all, get measured back to their respective worldly identities, with each one claiming that they have the right god, the right belief system, the higher morals, the right to rule. The worldly identity has assumed center stage of existence, and by extension, it wants to take the lead role in its own liberation.

As we squeeze our Radiant Soul and Breath into the confines of a worldly, made-up identity that we then claim is ‘who I am’, energy and attention get bound up in this body-mind worldly identity, into ‘I’ and all its relations, its goals, its defence and its survival. Our energy and attention hold the borders of our worldly identity, and it is borders that are the root cause of injustice, aggression, intolerance and discrimination. The only essential social relationship is therefore Our Direct Relationship with Nature, with the Laws of Nature (Nature that is the Embodiment of Spirit), and this IS the Life-Moral Relationship. If we could, just for a while… bring to stillness the search for Spiritual-Truth, the search to be loved, the search for others’ approval, the search for the One we already and only ever have and are – the Present, Un-conditioned Being that Lives the fragile substance of the body and the Eternal Sacred Ground of the Soul – then we would discover It to be Presently Self-Evident.

We must rise up out of the worldly-identity state of Consciousness. This does not mean the annihilation of culture, of You, of anything at all. The ‘Teaching’, the ‘Way of Un-conditioned Spirit’, the ‘Way of Love’, is not about annihilation or suppression of the many different cultural ways, but about liberation from gaining Our Life-Given Identity from the culture itself. Just as it is not about not wearing your clothes, rather can you not attach your sense of identity, your inner worth, your sense of self – to your fabulous rags and costumes and cloaks and altogether fancy-dress outfits. Enjoy them, have fun with them – hey, it’s theatre. Our garments, our skin colour, our language, all of our idiosyncratic ways… all morph and change in the theatre of Life while the body remains in constant communication with all that is beyond the outer garments.

If we are to Live in Peace here on this Life-throbbing Soul-Fire Being that we call Earth, we must become Involved in Freeing our Consciousness from the worldly identity. Only then will we enjoy our Full Conscious Awareness, our Life-inherited Free-Being Heart-Full Self, our ‘own’ Soul’s Un-conditioned Radiance.

Love is a Quality; it is a State of Consciousness that outshines all worldly-identity boundaries. Oh, those tendencies may still be felt, still want to arise, but Love Un-conditioned outshines them.

Love is not a conventional binding thing; rather, it outshines all boundaries, all sense of ownership, all forms of power and control over the other. Love is the Life-Creative Force of Relationship; Love is Commitment to Love.

Regardless of the worldly-identity’s reality, the body is always already abiding in the meditative enlightened State. Without interference from the worldly-identity mind, through all its cells, all its atoms, through all its nervous system, the body is already Aware of the Spiritual Reality – not so the mind. Therefore, Full Embodiment merely means that we are no longer in opposition to the body, to our bodily life, to the life of the body. The mind is the opposition. The mind, the holder of the worldly identity, is forever in opposition to the Heart, to the Soul, the Truth, to the Spirit Reality.

The Bright Circle is the Body. The Body contains and is the Circle of Life.

We need always the Native body, the body’s vibrant, ancient atomic Insights into Life. Insights into the Living internal atomic combustion of the Life of all, insights that penetrate to the deepest, to the most Heart-felt, the most Soul-felt, to the very core of Life; ah, to what the western mind-identity calls the ‘irrational realms’ of human understanding.

For what shall it profit a human if she or he dominates the whole world with their worldly identity and loses his or her Soul – the Inherent Free Consciousness.Yes, we all came into Existence in different wakas, however we are all in the same boat, and that boat lies waiting.
